My husband and I often joke about sending our dogs to camp....when we finally did I was really happy with the outcome. Both my very large golden retriever and diva like cocker spaniel had a fantastic time. They have come home and are currently sleeping off 5 days of fun. My cocker spaniel Millie currently has an extra spring in her step. The facility is clean and huge, the employees are friendly and accommodating, and the other patrons are respectful. I have borded my dogs on other occasions and my golden gets so bored he gets hot spots from licking...not this time. I highly recommend care-a-lot. While it was a little pricey (especially if you have two dogs) it was worth every penny. Max and Millie will be attending camp again in the future.

I did like the fact that the dogs weren't cooped up all day in a cage. Facility seemed clean when we toured. In fact it was very clean and I did not notice any odors. I think they should always have someone at the desk and you would be able to pick up your pet at any time during the day. A report card about your pet and their behavior and amount of meals they ate such as Petsmart gives would be nice on the day of pick up. The day I dropped off my pet she was put in a rock covered area by herself and did seem to be forgotten about. I had to go in and ask for someone to take her away from the fence. The smaller dogs have a special area for them as well as older dogs. On the day I toured the little ones seemed quite happy. So much better than the cages that many of the other boarding facilities use.

I was thinking about putting our dog in Care-A-Lot for about a week while we go on out of town. We've taken a tour before, and it SEEMED to be nice... We usually use another facility, but have thought about trying other options. I came to this site to find out more info on their practices and to read what other patrons thought about their experiences. I've read some disturbing stuff. Is there anyone out there that can assure me that my "baby" will be given the best care and attention? (Other then the staff... they seem to think they are 5 -stars in every category). I wonder if a staff member has ever used their own facility?

I've read the reviews and want to give my two cents... We are long time users of Camp Care A Lot. We typically board our golden retriever 3-4 weeks a year plus weekends around the holidays. We are dropping him off this evening (Saturday evening b/t 6:30 - 7:30 p.m.). He will be joined by his new puppy "sister" golden. They will be boarded together in a deluxe kennel. I planned ahead to get the puppy all her shots. They will also get a bath before I pick them up in a week. Our dog loves it there!!!! He always gets excited when we drop him off. When we get him back, he is so tired because he loves "running with the pack" for a week. After a day of rest at home, he's back to his energetic self. The staff is professional. They have strict time schedules on the weekends and close at nap time. You just need to plan ahead. Once I came at nap time to drop off and they were very friendly and accommodating (but I won?t incontinence them like that again). The facility is clean. I've toured it more than once. I'm surprised to hear of the complaints. People need to plan ahead and take responsibility for themselves with regard to the scheduled drop off / pick up times on weekends. All of their hours are clearly posted. I've used other kennels that wouldn?t even have limited weekend hours. Other kennels either kept our large dog in a cage all week, or had outside play yards, but he was put back in the kennel wet and developed hot spots. At Camp Care A Lot, our pet is happy and healthy!

I would like to comment on what I feel is unprofessional behavior on the part of Care A Lot. I agree that businesses should have the ability to respond to comments written about them (which may not be possible on CitySearch- a fault, I agree). However, I do not believe it is appropriate for Care A Lot to write a review about themselves as a response to comments- and then to give themselves 5 stars, thus skewing the overall rating. Aside from the two 5-star ratings given TO care a lot BY care a lot, the overall rating should be 2.5 stars, not 4.5. As a side note, an unclean and unkempt facility is inexcusable, at any time of the year. If the establishment is unable to handle the busyness of the holidays it should not take on extra clients. Period. Also, I do not know of any boarding facilities that are not open at all over the weekends. This would be very bad business indeed since most people need a boarding facility ON THE WEEKEND. Care A Lot has many good qualities, but there is also a lot of room for improvement. Please take these comments into consideration instead of ignoring them and just coming up with absurd excuses.
