Built in the 1790s, the Old Cape Henry Lighthouse is a National Historic Landmark considered by locals to be Virginia Beach's official symbol. Since enduring cracks in 1870, the lighthouse is no longer operational (that job went to the New Cape Henry Lighthouse, built 357 feet away), but visitors may still climb its 72-foot tower, experience its magnificent view of the Tidewater region, and shop in its gift shop. It lies on the waterfront about eight miles northeast of downtown, next to Lake Holly.
Open daily Nov. - mid Mar 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.; mid Mar - late Oct 10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Adults $3; Children (3-12) $2.
